When you live in a state as extremely hot as Texas, you fill your days with activities in the cool embrace of a hardworking air-conditioning system. So if you’re going to hibernate most of the summer, it’s ideal to have a home with plenty of space and amenities for entertainment.

It’s also nice to dream of those amenities at a larger, more luxurious scale—say, along the lines of this 17,331-square-foot home in Kingwood, if we’re going to be dreaming anyway. Here, resort-style living and majestic accents are the focus. There’s a waterfall pool, tennis courts, a media room, indoor half-court basketball, wet and dry saunas, and a separate apartment for guests. Here’s a closer look at the estate.

8 Deer Ridge Estates Blvd, Kingwood, TX 77339

Price: $5,490,000

Built in 2005, this home, listed at $5,490,000, has 6 bedrooms and 7 full and 4 partial bathrooms on a 4-acre lot in a gated community with 24-hour security surveillance. If your dream home resembles a grandiose estate packed with European luxury and architectural flourishes surrounded by lush landscaping, we found your abode in Kingwood.

The entry is a jaw-dropping grand foyer with a sweeping dual limestone balustrade staircase and a crystal chandelier. The walls are decorated with an earth-toned pattern and a heavenly mural to the left of the double doors.

The living room is warmly lit by a glistening chandelier that was imported from Prague. Tall windows give a serene view of the wooded estate, and the ceiling is designed with artful details and molding. There’s ample space for multiple seating areas, and double doors lead to a terrace.

Block paneling in the kitchen, along with multipiece molding on the ceiling and wood-inlaid marble on the floors, add to the intricate details throughout the home. What I love most here is the curved island, where guests will keep you company while you whip up something fresh and easy for summertime hangouts. The kitchen comes with a beautiful Thermador gas cooktop, a pot filler, and a custom copper vent hood.

You’ll be whisked away to a wine tasting in Tuscany thanks to the adorably quaint nook tucked near the prep kitchen. It has built-in seats and shelving for wine.

An open-concept breakfast area transcends the traditional corner nook thanks to an arched entry to the family room and double doors leading to a terrace.

In contrast to the breakfast area, the formal dining room is a more dimly lit and elegant space with a chandelier, a marble fireplace, hardwood floors, and custom-dressed windows with a drapery pocket.

A different view of the living room showcases the home’s grandiose décor, with thoughtfully placed canvas murals that can be moved and three chandeliers adorning the ceiling.

If a lazy Sunday with a good book is your idea of summertime fun, then the charming library will be your favorite room. The cozy nook is designed with a wood-paneled ceiling, built-in shelving, hardwood floors, and a chandelier—clearly, premium lighting is a common theme around the home.

For a quick basketball match without the Houston heat—or just to pretend you’re Robert Horry draining clutch threes in the 1994 NBA finals—there’s a half-court on the first floor of the home. There’s also an upper-level viewing area for those more interested in watching the action than partaking. The first-floor court also leads to the billiard room down the hall. There’s also a gym with wet and dry saunas, so you never have to leave your home to squeeze in a workout.

The listing calls this room the gentleman’s trophy room, but since we all know the ladies can also rack up their own impressive array of accolades, we’re calling this a massive game room, with wall space to decorate with anything from taxidermy to art to … really, anything.

The primary bedroom is a romantic retreat, with a balcony that leads to a terrace overlooking the yard. The ceiling is also intricately designed with crown molding and pot lights.

What no one tells you as you’re growing up sparring with your siblings over sink and mirror space in the bathroom is that when you get married, the fight continues. That is, unless you have a private bathroom all to yourself. The estate comes with his/her bathrooms, each built with beautifully detailed cabinets, floors, and bathtubs. The fight is over: everybody wins.

The backyard has a stunning view of the three terraces of the home. There are 4 acres of trees and land surrounding the home and plenty of space to lounge poolside in your own paradise.
