The Best 713 Day Events in Houston, According to Houstonia Editors

In 2024, much of Houston quietly skipped over its annual 713 Day celebrations after the Gulf Coast was hit hard by Hurricane Beryl. On July 8, 2024, Houston came to a standstill as many residents were without power and faced devastating damage from the storm. This year, the memories of Central Texas flood victims weigh heavily on our hearts, but many Houstonians aren’t ready to give up on 713 Day yet.
Residents and organizations across the city are gearing up to return to their Space City–centric activities. But this year, there's an extra layer of Houston pride—a mission to help our fellow Texans in need. From restaurants to bars, breweries to grocery stores, museums to the zoo, and even the Houston Food Bank, everyone is pitching in. Whether it’s discounted drinks or volunteering, here’s how we, as Houstonians, can come together to celebrate 713 Day this year.

Axelrad
midtown
It wouldn’t be a complete 713 Day if Axelrad Beer Garden weren’t throwing a party. From 5pm to 10pm, this local watering hole kicks off the festivities with live art by local artist Meenr, vendors, live DJs, and a showcase of Houston’s signature lowriders and slabs. Attendees can enjoy performances by Houston’s own hip-hop artist Grimm and Chicano Boulevard, a group dedicated to preserving Chicano culture. Enjoy food and a full bar, with $1 off all Houston draft beers.
Bar 5015
almeda
In honor of 713 Day, this popular Almeda hangout is showing out with a special iteration of its Legends Only concert series. Craft Pita Cookout
West University
For the third year in a row, chef-owner Rafael Nasr of fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant Craft Pita is hosting his annual 713 Day Cookout. From 11am to 2pm, Craft Pita’s West University location will serve a limited-edition collaboration with James Beard Award–winning chef Thomas Bille of Belly of the Beast. The menu will boast a combination of Lebanese and Mexican dishes, including barbacoa lamb neck taco arabe served with salsa, cilantro, and onions, as well as kibbeh nayyeh tostadas—Lebanese beef tartare served on a corn tostada with toum and fresh mint. Then, for the ultimate cool-down, try the olive oil cake ice cream, a collab crafted by Nasr and Craft Pita’s neighboring scoop shop, Milk & Sugar. Craft Pita will donate a portion of the cookout’s proceeds to the Southern Smoke Foundation’s Kerrville Disaster Relief fund for food and beverage workers affected by the floods.
Houston Food Bank
northeast
The nation’s largest food bank is ready to celebrate volunteering in style. On 713 Day, every Houstonian who volunteers at the food bank for the weekend shift will get to turn up with a post-shift Houston AF party. Volunteer shifts run from 9am to 1pm on Sunday. Think music from DJ Bloom, appearances from the 95.7 the Box team, photo ops with the Astros’ 2017 and 2022 championship trophies, free Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, plenty of vendors, and a raffle with prizes. 713-themed T-shirts are also available for sale, with all proceeds benefiting the Houston Food Bank.

Being a tried-and-true Houstonian means giving back to the city we all love, especially during a natural disaster. For 713 Day, national grocery chain Kroger is partnering with Radio One to open a donation center at its Katy store at 2700 West Grand Parkway. Requested items include nonperishable foods and cleaning items; Kroger promises to match all water donations. Officials say donations will be delivered to areas affected by recent floods in Texas.

This immersive art museum might be new to Houston, but it’s ready to party. On Sunday, July 13, Meow Wolf will cohost a free event with Saint Arnold Brewing and Do713 to celebrate our city’s iconic 713 Day. Held from noon to 4pm, this neighborhood-sized hangout will feature beats by DJ MLE, live mariachi music, free Popston popsicles (while supplies last), giveaways, and, of course, ice-cold Saint Arnold brews. The event will be hosted in Meow Wolf’s parking lot, but bars are within walking distance.
River Oaks Theatre
river oaks
River Oaks Theatre is getting into the 713 Day spirit with a special menu and a live performance by world-renowned hip-hop violinist Josh Vietti and tunes spun by 93.7 the Beat’s own DJ Kiotti. Fun fact: Vietti has performed with hip-hop royalty, including Dr. Dre and Trae Tha Truth, and even Lil Duval. His viral violin cover of 50 Cent's "In Da Club" (14 million views and counting) caught the attention of the rapper and led to a sold-out European Tour. Tickets to Vietti’s event are $51 and can be purchased online.
