Great F. Scott! Scenes from the Houston Vintage Preview Party

A Fitzgerald-inspired soiree celebrates retro fashion.

By Sarah Pendley October 7, 2013

Like a page out of The Great Gatsby (yes kids, it was a book before it was a movie), Dawn Bell's Houston Vintage held a Jazz Age kickoff party Friday for their upcoming fashion festival. From flappers to gangsters, guests donned attire inspired by the Roaring Twenties while sipping bubbly in the speakeasy-like setting of Oddfellows in the Heights. Underneath Christmas lights, the crowd was treated to a surprise performance from the Houston Hepcats, official group of Houston Swing Dance Society.

Staying true to the era of années folles, seductive burlesque entertainer Siouxsie Monroe playfully stripped down, leaving little to the imagination. The evening's finale was a fashion show featuring vintage pieces from vendors such as Vida Antigua, Splendor Vintage, Replay on 19th, Coronation Vintage, My Flaming Heart. Violet Peacock provided some extraordinary fascinators. The (retro) trend among featured gowns was detailed beading and unexpected back designs. Classic silhouettes and frisky hemlines suggest we are entering a new Golden Age for fashion.

For much more, join the Houston Vintage Market and Festival Saturday, Oct. 12 between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. at The 1940 Air Terminal Museum. Tickets are available here.
