Houston, your kids are slacking. First we had the bestseller French Kids Eat Everything to remind us that les petites Françaises are happy and healthy gourmands who have never heard of chicken nuggets. But did you know that in Europe the children not only eat better, they dress better, too?

"Here in America what you value is being comfortable, that is the priority when children are dressed," says Karen Aranky. "In Spain it's not a matter of being comfortable because the way you dress has to be comfortable, they take it for granted. The focus is on the fabrics. Clothing has to be 100 percent cotton or 100 percent wool, pure fabrics, because really good fabrics are investment pieces. When you go to park and play the kids are dressed in a way that they can play, still can go on swings or slide in beautiful dress or outfit because of the quality."

After years of living in Spain, Arankyand her family moved to Houston last year. Now she's bringing the European mode of dressing with her, launching Nubë 9 children's clothing collection with a trunk show and a capsule collection at Mint Baby & Kids in Uptown Park.

Nubë 9 is a line of European designer brands that Aranky and her co-founder, Pamela Ip, have curated and imported. The collection includes fur-lined sweaters, Italian leather shoes and dresses with matching tights for newborns up to age 10 from Spanish brands Casilda & Jimena, Rubio Kids, and Manuela de Juan. All the pieces are handmade using traditional methods and luxury fabrics sourced from England and Italy, with prices starting around $100.

"The way the garments and pieces are done, you can say it's almost couture—it takes months to produce," says Aranky. "The colors are soft and muted so that as children are growing you can match the new pieces together with ones that are inherited. The pieces are so well done you can pass them down in your family because they are quality and the design is classic."
