How to make sure there's only one image that comes to mind when people think of you at the Met Ball? If you're Beyoncé, you show up in a totally sheer custom Givenchy Haute Couture gown by Riccardo Tisci that's embedded with crystals in all the right places, like the queen that you are. Bonus: we're sure it made Bill O'Reilly clutch every last one of his pearls.
Then pair it with the high ponytail that I wore in my first grade class photo because it's still dope, and then post some pictures that look like they were taken in Terry Richardson's basement, because who needs a red carpet, I guess.
On the other end of the fashion spectrum (the end where there's fabric that's not see-through), Rihanna's fierce golden dragon realness in the form of an endless fur-lined gown by Chinese designer Guo Pei put everyone else on notice that the "China: Through the Looking Glass" theme does not just mean wear red and call it a night.
Solange, still fresh off having the coolest wedding ever, went for an avant garde look from Giles Deacon which looked a little like a flying saucer from the front, with tiny pleats all over to give the gown the illusion of movement—it almost looked like a hologram. So weird but cool and undeniably pretty, which is exactly what we love about Solange.
What did you think about the Met Ball red carpet looks? Who was your favorite?
