Pinterest Dreams Come True: Buyable Pins Are Finally Here

Ready your credit cards!

By Layne Lynch June 9, 2015

Pinterest is not for the practical. It calls to the idealists, the dreamers, the romantics; 70 million of whom for years have planned their (imaginary) perfect parties, rustic barn weddings, Christmas menus and seasonal wardrobes on this social media scrapbook. Oftentimes Pinterest reads like a bottomless pit of ideas as opposed to raw materials, but all that is about to change.

Recently, Pinterest announced the addition of Buyable Pins, which allows customers to purchase items directly through the Pinterest app or site. According to Pinterest, brands like Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Cole Haan, Nordstrom and more will be featured in the coming weeks. Ready your credit cards!

Here's the rundown: Certain but not all Pinterest items will be labeled with a blue Buyable pin. In other words, you probably won’t be able to purchase those DIY Tiffany blue Mason jars, but you can probably snag that over-the-top organza gown.

Through Buyable Pins, users can tap and purchase items with a saved credit card, or add the item(s) to a wish list for a future – or imagined – purchase. What’s more, Pinterest won’t take a profit from the sales, allowing businesses to directly handle sales and shipping on their end.

If any of this sounds familiar, it should. Last October, Houstonia reported on an app one step ahead of Pinterest: Keep. This shopping app was the first to allow shoppers to search feeds, curated lists and consumer goods, purchasing all designated items through a universal checkout.

Props to Pinterest for finally making our dreams realities! For more information, visit Pinterest’s business page.
