Ever since the term 'WAG' was invented to describe the tabloid exploits of the Burberry-wearing wives and girlfriends of European soccer stars, there's been a certain stereotype of athlete wives as catty Real Housewife wannabes. However, obsessively watching Hard Knocks has convinced me that most WAGs are more like Regina King in Jerry Maguire: strong women who are devoted to family and community. Which isn't to say they don't like to have a little fun—especially when it comes to fashion and raising money for a good cause.
That's what the 16th Annual Players' Wives Association Fashion Show is all about. Looking for a fashion-forward way to get into the Super Bowl spirit and mingle with NFL stars? This is it. Taking place at 11 a.m. Feb. 3 at Tootsies, the runway event will feature wives of current and former NFL players (and some of their kids!) in of-the-moment high-fashion looks. Guests will also enjoy catering by Caswell & Co. and can bid on everything from sports memorabilia to spa packages in the silent auction. This is the first time the event will be held in Houston, as it launched in 2006, just after the city's last hosting stint in 2004.
Tickets start at $100 for standing room only; a front-row seat costs $350, and sponsorships go all the way to $50,000, with a portion of the proceeds going to Off the Field Players' Wives Association and to Covenant House, a Houston-based organization devoted to helping homeless youth.
