This Saturday, March 3 is shaping up to be full of opportunity—to burn calories, raise money for children's charity, and pretend you're an extra in Ariana Grande's "Side to Side" music video.

Starting at 8 a.m., fitness centers around the city are hosting indoor cycling relays for two benevolent causes: The 23rd Annual Periwinkle Cycle benefits The Periwinkle Foundation, which develops pediatric cancer programs, and the 3rd Annual Ride for a Reason fundraises for St. Jude and the Life Time Foundation, the latter which aims to boost nutrition in schools.

Grab your sneakers, set your alarm, and get ready to ride—the burn fun lasts four hours.

Periwinkle Cycle

  • What: A family-friendly fitness competition where cyclists of all ages and abilities form teams of four and face off in 30-minute heats to fundraise for The Periwinkle Foundation's Camps, Arts, and Survivor Programs. This year's theme is "Reach for the Stars ... Periwinkle Goes Hollywood," and participants are invited to get in the spirit by dressing up and decking out their bikes. Awards for Best Dressed Team, Best Bike Decorations, Most Spirited Team, Furthest Distance, and Top Fundraiser will be handed out after the spin-a-thon concludes at noon. Incentives include SoulCycle classes and tickets to Periwinkle's Iron Sommelier, the prestigious wine competition. A silent auction, children's game, music, and more round out the morning. Register online.
  • When: Saturday, March 3, 8 a.m.–noon
  • Where: Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa, 111 North Post Oak Lane

Ride for a Reason

  • What: A cycling relay to fundraise for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and The Life Time Foundation, both organizations dedicated to healthier kids. Participating teams are encouraged to raise $250 per hour for the four-hour event, during which spinners will experience Life Time's signature AMP, EDG, and PWR cycling classes. The relays take place concurrently at Life Time's City Centre and Humble locations; the City Centre event will be outside in the green space—weather permitting (fingers crossed: Saturday's forecast looks partly sunny at 73 degrees as of Friday afternoon). Register online.
  • When: Saturday, March 3, 8 a.m.–noon
  • Where: Life Time Fitness/Athletic Houston City Centre, 815 Town & Country Lane, and Lake Houston, 13600 Will Clayton Parkway, Humble
