The rest of Cherry Pie Hospitality is now in the hands of Michael Sambrooks.
The owner and operator of The Pit Room in Montrose has purchased Lee's Fried Chicken & Donuts, Star Fish Coastal Kitchen & Bar, and Pi Pizza. The agreement was signed August 31, according to a release, and Sambrooks has assumed immediate control of the locations.
“We have been highly interested in expanding into select, high quality concepts, and we love all three of these new additions. We are very excited to work with the talented folks at all three restaurants, honing the menus and the businesses to take them to the next level,” Sambrooks said.
Along with this news, Sambrooks has named Houstonian Steve Braker, formerly of Uchi and Reef, the director of operations at Sambrooks Management Company. Sambrooks plans on changing the names at Pi and Lee's, while also updating the branding and service.
That means Cherry Pie no longer operates restaurants, a stunning turn of events that occurred in just one month. Early in August news broke that the landlord of Pi and Star Fish had locked the operators out for a day because of a banking snafu. Then it was reported that Cherry Pie was named in a $1 million lawsuit. Following that, Cherry Pie sold State Fare to a local buyer, and later closed Petite Sweets. Just days ago, rumors were flying about Sambrooks' connection to Pi, Star Fish, and Lee's.
UPDATE: Greg Morago at the Chronicle reports Lee's Fried Chicken & Donuts is changing its name to—wait for it—Sam's Fried Chicken & Donuts.
No word yet on if Pi Pizza will become Pit Pizza (joking but not joking).
