Please refrain from hurling in the jack-o-lantern.

Looking for some not-so-kid-friendly Halloween treats? Look to not one, but four bar crawls for your Halloween haunt. With live DJs, costume contests, and—of course—booze, these crawls will do the trick to get you into a costume and out to all those bars you’ve been meaning to check out.

Halloween Bar Crawl (Washington Avenue) | Saturday, October 20th

Stops: Clutch, Daisy Duke’s, Lincoln Bar, Standard, Handlebar, Kung Fu Saloon, Concrete Cowboy

Can’t wait for Halloweekend proper? If your costume is all ready to go and candy just isn’t doing the trick, this early-bird option will let you ring in the season both this weekend and next, if you so desire. And if you’re just in it for the ‘gram (no shame), the Halloween Bar Crawl even provides professional photography alongside its haunted drink specials. With costume contests for solo, duo, and group costumes, and giveaways at every bar, you’re bound to find something spooky and spectacular along Washington Ave.

12th Annual Montrose Crawl (Lower Westheimer) | Saturday, October 27th

Stops: Brasil, Poison Girl, La Grange, Pistolero’s, Boondocks, Stone’s Throw, Catbirds, Present Company, Slick Willie’s, El Real Tex-Mex, The Burger Joint

Crawl for a Cause? All of the bars participating in the legendary Montrose Crawl will donate a portion of their sales to the Houston Area Women’s Center. With no cover, live DJs, and generous prizes for the best costumes at each stop, this mix-and-match, at-your-own-pace tour of Lower Westheimer offers a friendly and casual venue to get to know the area and its festive residents, all while doing some good for the Houston community. And if you make it as a costume-contest finalist, the Grand Crawler, CultureMap’s Food Editor extraordinaire Eric Sandler, might select you to win the grand prize—a $100 gift card to The Burger Joint.

HalloWeekend Pub Crawl Houston (Midtown) | Saturday, October 27th

Stops: The Dogwood, Little Woodrow’s, Christian’s Tailgate, Howl at the Moon, Mongoose versus Cobra, Saint Dane’s, Komodo's Pub, and more

If you’re looking to crawl a bit more uptown, join the HalloWeekend Pub Crawl and the “best party crowd in Texas” for a festive journey through the streets of Midtown. Registration starts at The Dogwood at 4 p.m., so you can fit in a rooftop-bar happy hour before the Halloween festivities even begin. From there, head to any of the participating bars to take advantage of the low-priced drink specials and get to know the jovial Midtown crowd.

Nightly Spirits Haunted Ghost Tour Pub Crawl (Downtown) | Fridays and Saturdays: 8:30PM

Beginning at Public Services Wine & Whisky, this combination ghost tour and pub crawl journeys through downtown Houston’s most haunted sites—including bars, buildings, and the old town hall. Your “ghostly guide” will take you back in time to the 1800s, educating you on Houston’s lost spirits while you enjoy some deals on, well, spirits. While it may not be the spookiest or the booziest option of the bunch (read about our experience with last year's version here), you’ll walk away with countless Houston fun facts, a souvenir beer koozie, and maybe some new ghostly friends.
