The Drive-In Off Navigation Goes Big for 2021
The new location for Rooftop Cinema Club expands its screen (and changes its name) for the new year.

A night at the drive-in.
Rooftop Cinema Club will debut the largest drive-in screen in the city when The Drive-In off Navigation opens on January 21 at 2300 Runnels St (at Navigation), overlooking the downtown skyline.
"But wait, didn't this spot already open?" you ask.
Indeed, the site soft opened in December, after hopping over from its well-received Sawyer Yards stint to take over the site from the Space City Shows pop-up (who knew drive-in switcheroos would become a thing during a pandemic?). Way back then—seriously, hasn't it been 10 years since Wednesday?—it was called The Drive-in at EaDo and only had a 20-by-40-foot screen propped up by shipping containers. Now guests can expect a permanent 64-foot screen and state-of-the-art projection equipment at the newly renamed venue, along with Rooftop Cinema's signature kitschy throwback vibe, and room enough for 200 cars to space out 10 feet apart.
The drive-in is still also entirely contactless—from online ticketing to concession orders from local food trucks, Kurbside Eatz and Sizzles HTX, and audio provided by your own FM radio. Masks are required if guests exit their vehicle (and yes, there are restrooms). The venue will operate Wednesdays through Saturdays, and tickets will set you back $22–36 per vehicle, depending on the day and the number of folks in your crew (this gets you just one screening). Parking is first-come, first-serve, and doors open an hour before the first screening and 30 minutes before the second or third showing.
There will also be monthly Community Screenings—$5 per vehicle for up to two occupants, and $10 per vehicle for three or more—with proceeds benefiting The Beacon, a non-profit organization that serves the Houston homeless community.
The movie listings are now live at rooftopcinemaclub.com/navigation, but here’s the initial lineup for showings as well.
