This summer, a local Houston celebrity will be performing with some of our favorite characters from the wildly entertaining competition show The Masked Singer.

The reality singing show, which began airing on Fox in 2019, originated in South Korea and quickly gained popularity as one of the highest-rated television shows. Contestants in extravagant costumes sing a 90-second cover, with hints about their identities given periodically. The audience and panel then vote for their favorite performance, using the process of elimination until there's one contestant left. The least popular performer is "unmasked" before being booted from the competition.

The show is beloved for its campy, over-the-top performances and production. Where else can you watch Gladys Knight singing in a bee costume?

Previous winners of the show include T-Pain, Kandi Burruss, Nick Lachey, and Wayne Brady. This season, singer-songwriter Jewel won the judges over with her renditions of Édith Piaf's "La Vie en Rose" and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way."

Now, the first-ever Masked Singer National Tour is making a stop at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land on July 14.

The national tour takes it to the next level with surprise celebrity guests and never seen performances. Fan-favorite characters Pepper, Queen of Hearts, Taco, Alien, Robot, and Season 7's Thingamabob are also making appearances on the show. Each tour stop will feature one local celebrity, with the audience tasked to decipher their identity before the unmasking at the end of the night.

Now that The Masked Singer is a certified pop culture sensation going on tour feels like a natural progression for the show.

Speaking of Pepper, Natasha Bedingfield, the singer behind the mask, will be lending her talents as host and performer. The Grammy-nominated artist was a contestant in Season 6, where she donned the red hot pepper costume for her disguise. Known for her songs like "Pocket Full of Sunshine" and "Unwritten," Bedingfield didn't win her season but loved participating in the show.

"My time on The Masked Singer was such a thrilling challenge and a unique way to get good music across to a wide audience," she said. "The quality of The Masked Singer production is unmatched, and I'm so excited to carry that into what will be unlike any other touring experience I've had."

Now that The Masked Singer is a certified pop culture sensation going on tour feels like a natural progression for the show. For the inaugural Masked Singer National Tour, the show will hit 50 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Tickets for the Sugar Land show start at $39, with VIP options starting at $250. You can purchase tickets here.
