Sammy's Wild Game Grill features a unique menu including wild game meats like bison, elk, buffalo, even camel and kangaroo. Guests have the option of ordering their choice of meat in a burger, dog and even empanadas, and toppings include grilled onions, cheddar cheese, purple cabbage and more.

The restaurant is warm and inviting, with country Texan decor and a friendly staff. Owner Samuel "Sammy" Ballarin himself greeted me as I took a seat at the counter. The menu can be daunting, to say the least, thanks to items python chili. But once your food is out and you get a first taste, your fears will subside.

The yak empanadas at Sammy's Wild Game Grill were some of the best I have ever had. The smoky flavor of the ground meat combined with a subtle, sweet filling and a creamy dipping sauce were the perfect prelude to my kangaroo dog. And as for the main dish, it was definitely a one-of-a-kind experience. Served on a soft pretzel bun and loaded with fresh toppings, the kangaroo dog, not at all greasy, was cooked perfectly.

Sammy's prides itself in offering only the highest quality, all-natural wild game meats. Though the items may be unfamiliar, wild game meat is high in protein and lower in cholesterol, making it a healthy alternative to your typical beef patty. And the extent of how wild you want to make your meal is up to you—the menu offers all of the regular burger joint faves too.
