Eat & Drink For a Cause: Paws & Prosecco

Paws & Prosecco helps little guys like these find forever homes.
This weekend brings a charity event especially for our four-legged friends, but there's no need to dust off the black ties—this is more of a Sunday Funday affair. Houston-based charity Love and Rescue, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of animals in need, is hosting its second annual fundraiser Sunday, Nov. 8 at The Dogwood, the popular patio bar in Midtown.
Affectionately named Paws & Prosecco, the event is the biggest of the year for the foster-based rescue run entirely by Houston volunteers. Guests are invited to enjoy Sunday Funday shenanigans at the open air multi-level bar with sweeping views of downtown, and The Dogwood will be offering complimentary glasses of prosecco to those who make a donation. Pair that with a Texans game and a brunch menu including PB&Jammin buttermilk pancakes or the Hair of the Dogwood breakfast burrito stuffed with scrambled eggs, fries, bacon and queso and you have quite the paw-ty indeed.

LAR has been involved in the rescue and adoption of animals all over the country, with the organization placing a heavy focus on foster care and adoptions. With operations run primarily out of the Houston area, 100 percent of donations are used for providing care to rescued animals. Though it doesn't have a bricks-and-mortar shelter, LAR offers volunteers who want to make a difference the flexibility in participating in its Dynamic Duo program, which is a foster team made up of two people: a physical foster who provides a home for animals in need and a financial foster who provides funds for the animal. Utilizing social media, LAR is able to spread the word to thousands of people and help its fostered animals find forever homes.
Though LAR hosts events throughout the year to spread awareness and raise funds, it is this collaboration with the popular Midtown bar which garners the most interest for this young charity. As The Dogwood maintains an open-door policy to furry friends, pets will be greeted with open arms this Sunday during the Paws and Prosecco event. Love and Rescue volunteers will be offering guests information on how to become a foster or be a part of the Angel Program as well as the opportunity to take home a pup of your own.
