If your love life has been a bit lackluster lately, Slow Food Houston and Nice Wines give you another chance at finding true love—this time in the form of a beverage. The local food concerns are pairing up to host a Speed Sipping event held at Nice Winery on October 22, where guests will sample the winery's own tipples as well as Houston-made brews from Java Pura Coffee Roasters and Kickin’ Kombucha. You’ll also get to meet the makers! Who knows, if it doesn’t work out between you and a beverage, you may have a shot with the artisan who made it.

Once the sipping starts, you’ll have a chance to participate in three intimate speed sipping sessions in which the craft beverage producers will describe their process and answer any questions you may have. Perfect time to ask about their morals and values. Following the sessions, United Against Human Trafficking will discuss the impact of Fair Trade practices on Houston's drink scene.

“We hope to engage the community with our new Slow Food Guilds program as well as build awareness for the local beverage proprietors in our area who promote good, clean, and fair practices,” says Alice Gomez, brand manager at Slow Food Houston.

Slow Food Houston is a growing chapter and a part of the global Slow Food network that works to protect and support small farmers, agricultural biodiversity, artisanal skills and authentic local and regional cuisines worldwide. This event is the first of five interest-based collectives focusing around food artisans, beverage artisans, cultural cuisines, growers, food and art. In other words, if you don't fine love at this particular event, you’ll have several more chances coming up.

Speed Sipping with Slow Food Houston, Saturday, October 22, 5:30–7:30 p.m., Nice Winery, 2901 W. Sam Houston Pkwy.
