Take a seat for a special deal at La Table.

Of the various ways restaurants raise funds for charity, the “restaurants offer prix-fixe menus for a number of weeks” one is my favorite. I enjoy the long time frame that doesn’t lock me into having to be somewhere on a certain night, and I enjoy the variety of options that come with them instead of having to order a specific dish. Houston Restaurant Weeks is still a bit away, but for this month some of the restaurants in Uptown are banding together to show off their collective skills and raise some money in the process.

Under the banner Uptown Summer Dine Around, 13 restaurants, including fine dining and fast casual spots, are offering up special prices and menu items at lunch and dinner starting June 7 and lasting until June 30. The participating restaurants are Berryhill Baja Grill, Café Annie, Etoile Cuisine et Bar, La Table, Luby’s, McCormick and Schmick’s, Morton’s the Steakhouse, Moxie's Grill and Bar, The Oceanaire Seafood Room, Piatto Ristorante, Post Oak Grill, Songkran Thai Kitchen and Willie G’s; as you can see, there’s something for everyone.

In terms of pricing, you’re looking at $20 per person at lunchtime with those restaurants participating (you’ll want to check the website before heading out for lunch) and either $35 or $45 per person at dinner. For each meal purchased a donation will be made to the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation to support summer reading.

So the question is: where do you start? I’m digging Morton’s lunch offerings, including their prime burger and Chicken Christopher as options. You’ll find chicken fried lobster and shrimp diablo on the Oceanaire Seafood Room’s dinner menu. Or hey, maybe this is finally the push you need to go check out what’s going on with Luby’s Kitchen Table, the company's concept test location—at the very least you know the mac 'n' cheese will be on point. But don’t stress too much; wherever you end up, you can always visit again before the 30th.
