Beer News: Get Colorful Avengers: Endgame Inspired Beers from Ingenious
Avengers: Endgame, which is out today, is inspiring one brewpub to go all in with some colorful suds. But that isn't the only film being celebrated this week.
News & Events
It's grand opening weekend at True Anomaly Brewing. Starting at noon Saturday, visit for a release of several beers, including a few foeder aged beers (aged in large oak barrels that make for a funky fermentation process). Most of the beers released will be on the sour side. There's also live music on the patio Saturday, plus a comedy showcase in the brewery barrel room starting at 7 p.m.
Astral Brewing is hosting the Houston Dart Association's Bullseye for Barks event from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Compete for $10, or just hang out as the HDA and Astral raise money for Belle's Buds Rescue. Adoptions, raffles, music, and more.
Karbach is hosting a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta & Market from noon to 6 p.m. May 5. Local artisans will display their work, while musicians play throughout the day. At 7 p.m., get a performance by Los Skarnales.
Do you like succulents? Of course you do. Eureka Heights is throwing a potting party from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. May 3. Admission is $35 and includes up to four baby succulents, pots, and materials to paint on them. Also, you get a free first beer.
Beer Releases
You can get the Smarty Stone beers (made in celebration of Avengers: Endgame) until they run out at Ingenious. Six pretty wild sour ale flavors available, from one with kiwi, key lime, vanilla beans, and jalapeño, to my favorite, one with prickly pear and passion fruit. Like the infinity stones of The Avengers, these beers have very distinct hues.
While Ingenious nods to Avengers, Sigma takes a page from Terminator 2 with I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots, and Your Motorcycle. This 8 percent double IPA has Simcoe and El Dorado hops. Available on tap and in four-packs.
Platypus will release ANZAC Ale, brewed with hops from both Australia and New Zealand, on Saturday. Starting at noon, the brewery will host a release event where half of all proceeds from the beer will go toward victims of the Christchurch, New Zealand, mosque shooting of March 15. Plus, Platypus will mark a moment of reflection at 6 p.m.
At noon Saturday, Spindletap will release its 2019 batch of Hopkeem DIPA with Motueka and Vic Secret hops. This is your Rockets playoff run beer, an 8 percent double guaranteed to hang with you during those tense second-round games against the War—nevermind, we shouldn't say anything yet.
Nice Things is now available at Brash, and you can have them. The double IPA comes in at 10.1 percent ABV. New stuff is also on its way at Brash, from a gose named Ghost to a pilsner named Beer. Brash is pretty fun.
Only at the Saint Arnold Beer Garden & Restaurant, get Art Car IPA brewed with blueberries and a dry-hopped 5 O'Clock Pils (using Kazbeck hops).
Great Heights's newest beer is called Tania, a passionfruit Berlinerweisse, Tania is the original Berliner Mr. Wilhelm, just with passionfruit purée.
Holler released Brohemian Moonlight last week. The 5.7 percent Czech dark lager is available at the brewery.
New at Under the Radar: Seti Saison, a 7 percent ABV farmhouse-style beer. Crisp with a dash of spice.
B-52 is releasing Smoothie Tart: Guava, Strawberry & Mango at 3 p.m. Friday. Get it on tap in can.
