it looks like Hugo Ortega and Tracy Vaught will be opening a restaurant in Uptown Park. Vaught, a James Beard-nominated restaurateur who founded Backstreet Cafe and is married to James Beard-winning chef Ortega, confirmed rumors of a new restaurant in a statement Friday morning.

The rumors started at the forums of the Houston Architecture website and were brought to greater public attention on Twitter. With interest percolating, Vaught responded to the rumor by confirming the restaurant group has found a location at Uptown Park.

“Hugo and I are always thinking about new concepts and checking out spaces, and Uptown Park was a possibility for something new, but we didn’t finalize until recently," wrote Vaught in the statement. "Like with all our other concepts, we prefer to keep the idea close to our chests, as we like to have the ability to plan, develop and make changes at-will without being hindered by any previous announcements. So, yes, we did sign with Eden to go into Uptown Park. Our plans are still fluid and the opening is at least a year away. We have no further details at this time.”

The restaurant will join H-Town Restaurant Group's solid stable of eateries, including Backstreet Cafe, which will celebrate 37 years this year, plus Caracol, Hugo's, and Xochi.

Ortega won a James Beard for Best Chef Southwest in 2017.
