Beer News: Breweries Giving Back with Collaborative Beers
This weekend there are plenty of new beers to consume. We have details on new Oktoberfest beers at Holler and Baileson, plus a saison, an imperial sour, and a big ol' version of Euerka Heights's Mini Boss.

Urban South Brewery, which is based in New Orleans, brewed a beer called Coastal Harmony, a double IPA that benefits the Urban South Coastal Harmony Fund. That fund, managed by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, gives to folks impacted by Hurricane Laura, which hit the southwestern Louisiana coast on August 27.
Urban South shared the recipe of Coastal Harmony so other breweries in the Gulf Coast could make it, and Saint Arnold is the first Houston-area spot to go for it. The beer will be released in late October, says Saint Arnold.
Speaking of Urban South ... its Houston satellite at Sawyer Yards presented a check for $4,365 to the Southern Smoke Foundation on Wednesday as part of the All Together beer collaboration. All Together, created by Other Half Brewing in New York, is a beer whose recipe breweries across the country can use. All Other Half asks is that breweries who make All Together donate some proceeds to a local entity helping the hospitality industry. For Urban South HTX, that entity was Southern Smoke.
No Label has launched a campaign called Take Back 2020. Each Friday until Halloween the brewery will celebrate another holiday or special day that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic. It begins next Friday with a Cinco de Mayo party.
Under the Radar, which has one of Houston's best outdoor beer gardens, reopened its facility on Thursday. You can hang out and drink just like you did before Covid-19 (but social distance, y'all). It's open 2–9 p.m. Thursday, noon to 9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. The brewery is takeout-only 2–8 p.m. Monday–Wednesday.
Beer Releases
Holler has a new beer for Oktoberfest called Marz Attacks. This beer has Hallertauer hops and balances pilsner, Vienna, and Munich malts. Prost!
Karbach will be releasing a low-calorie and non-alcoholic beverage they claim tastes like an IPA. It's called Free & Easy and will hit stores in October.
Southern Yankee has released Golden Galaxy, a dry-hopped saison. It comes in at 6.1-percent ABV and includes Galaxy and El Dorado hops.
B-52's newest is Pineapple Tiger, a pineapple IPA at 9.7-percent ABV.
Baa Baa Brewhouse is conducting walk-up sales and online order pickup 5–9 p.m. today. Check out the beer list here.
Ingenious's newest beers are coconut rum-barrel-aged Make Russia Great Again, a 12.5-percent ABV imperial stout, and Fruit Madness Blue Hawaiian, a 9-percent imperial sour ale smoothie with tropical fruit and blue curaçao. The release was Wednesday, so there might be some left over.
Vallensons' has sours: a pickle sour and a cucumber sour. Both are available at the taproom.
Sigma's newest is Chaotician (think chaos plus mortician), a New England-style IPA with a new hop called Monroe. It's available starting today at the brewery; you can also order online.
Baileson is releasing Oktoberfest this weekend (Munich, Vienna, and pilsner malts, and German hops).
More Oktoberfest: Platypus's Oktoberfest is a 5.5-percent ABV märzen.
Brash is giving us Urban Achiever, a bourbon-barrel-aged version of Abide (Brash's white Russian stout). You can order it now online.
Final Boss is Eureka Heights going nuts with its IPA Mini Boss. The brewery triple-dry-hopped Vic Secret and doubled the mash bill to create this 11-percent ABV monster. It's available now in can.
Also in can is Great Heights's Oakstoberfest, and it's available at the brewery.
Over at Astral, get Sunshine Surfer, a West Coast IPA. It's available in crowler, can, or bottle.
No Label is releasing Steady as She Gose on Saturday. This is a watermelon gose (sour beer), whose can art honors the brewery's female staff members.
Bakfish's newest beer, Paleican, is a pale ale, and a portion of its proceeds go to Houston Audubon. Head to the brewery between noon and 2 p.m. Saturday to learn more about Audubon and to enjoy some brews.
