Beer News: Raise a Glass Because Oktoberfest Parties Roll On

Plus, next week brings the start of a collaboration between Ingenious and organizations supporting social equality.

It's a quiet week in the Houston beer scene, probably since everyone's busy planning their Astros watch parties. Most breweries letting customers in are inviting folks to watch games, possibly with beer specials. Check with your favorite local spot before heading in to see what they're doing for the game.

Meanwhile, here's what's going on across the city:

News & Events

City Acre is hosting its Oktoberfest celebration Thursday through October 25. The brewery will be bringing back a few beers, including German Kolsch, Skull Creek, and the IPA Sabro de Soledad. Plus, the food menu will include German-style specialties, like sausage and pretzel on a stick, and a German pork and venison burger topped with apple and sauerkraut.

More Oktobertfest fun! Saloon Door is hosting its celebration from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. Get a stein of 2020 Oktoberfest beer, compete in the stein holding competition, enjoy the Bavarian Strongman Brothers' comedy routine, and purchase a big ol' charcuterie board for snacking.

Ooh: Brash is doing a doughnut (specifically beer doughnut) pop-up on November 7 at its taproom. Varieties include Cali Green CBDonut, Peanut Butter Wold, Pussy Wagon, and more.

You can order tickets now for 8th Wonder's annual celebration of the life and legacy of DJ Screw. This year's party is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 15 and, instead of live performances, ticketholders will get a new DJ Screw glass created by Donkeeboy, plus a six-pack of ScrewBerry beer, which will be available starting the day of the party. Get tickets here.

Beer Releases

Ingenious is throwing a release party starting noon October 24 for its newest series called Humbled In Humble, which aims to raise awareness of social inequalities. The first beer to be released is a 10-percent ABV imperial pastry stout with blueberries, cream cheese, and waffles, and comes from a collaboration with celebrated breakfast spot The Breakfast Klub.

Partners in the Humbled In Humble series include The Breakfast Klub, plus Hop Topic, Beer Chronicle, The Pint Exchange, Brew Brotha, and Brewbroshtx, and all proceeds will go to 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston and 100 Black Men of Austin, organizations that provide mentorship to young Black men.

New Magnolia has three new beers on tap: Heights Light Lager is a 4-percent ABV American lager with low caloric content; Brodgar's Ring is a wee heavy beer, also known as a Scotch ale and known for its heavier, caramel-malt characteristics; and Nuptiale, a saison brewed with brettanomyces and flowers. All are available now at its Heights taproom.

Eureka Heights has gone bigger, releasing a triple dry-hopped Mini Boss on Thursday. You can get it via drive-thru at Eureka Heights.

At Great Heights, In-House IPA #8, brewed with Strata and Sabro hops, is available in four-packs.

To mark the recent release of local heavy psych band Warlung's newest album, Optical Delusions, Sigma collaborated with them on a new beer called Hoptical Delusion. This is a 8.3-percent ABV IPA brewed with Mosaic and Simcoe hops, and it is available now at the taproom for take-home.

Vallensons' has a new beer called The Vilz. This pilsner comes in at 5-percent ABV and is available at its taproom in Pearland.

True Anomaly has released Contact Light, a dry-hopped saison. It's available in cans and on tap at the EaDo taproom.

At B-52, get a new beer called Lantana. This New England triple IPA is brewed with white wheat and double dry-hopped with Amarillo, Chinook, and Columbus. You can pick up cans of the beer at the B-52 taproom in Conroe.
