Beer News: Warm up with Some Big Imperial Stouts This Weekend

Plus, a Pearland brewery announces an expansion.

By Timothy Malcolm December 4, 2020

While some breweries have taken this weekend to restock after a wild Thanksgiving holiday, others are putting out some new ales and lagers. Look for big imperial stouts as the winter weather sets in, including a major event this weekend at Webster's Saloon Door Brewing.

News & Events

Good news at Vallensons' Brewing Company. The Pearland brewery is expanding with a larger brewhouse and taproom area. During the expansion the brewery has altered its hours: 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Get a whole bunch of exclusive beers at Saloon Door's Winter Barrel Beer Fest, scheduled for noon Saturday at the Webster brewery and taproom. Releases include a Thin Mint imperial stout, a hot chocolate marshmallow imperial stout, and barrel-aged imperial stout goodies like Ludicrous AF (peanut butter and chocolate), I Must Break You (traditional), and newbies Merryculious (maple and pecan) and Reindiculous (peanut butter, white chocolate). There'll also be a toy drive, plus food trucks, a jumbo dice game, and live music.

B-52 is selling a bunch of IPAs for cheap. Get $3 cans and bottles from 2 to 5 p.m. today.

Megaton Brewery is hosting a holiday artisan market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at its Kingwood taproom. More than 45 vendors will be there, and free hot cocoa will be available.

Beer Releases

Spindletap is releasing Spruced Up DIPA, a Christmas double IPA brewed with spruce tips, juniper, tangerine, and peaches. It's at 9-percent ABV. With it is a new batch of Hirsch Road Hopheads DIPA, also at 9-percent ABV. Both are available starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at the taproom. First come, first serve.

This week, get Dumb Dumb Blackberry Milkshake (a smoothie-style beer conditioned on blackberries, vanilla beans, and Marshmallow Fluff), Hall Pass (a German-style Kolsch), and Dumb Dumb Raspberry Milkshake (same as the blackberry version but with a different fruit, of course). Release starts at noon at the Humble taproom.

Urban South has releases planned for every Thursday in December. This week get Double Spilled: Raspberry, Strawberry, Lime. And also look for Holy Roller, the brewery's newest hazy IPA

Platypus's newest is Cherry Ripe Imperial Stout, a 9-percent ABV beer that's perfect for winter. It's out today.

Small release at New Magnolia: Caraselli is a bière de garde with cranberry and cinnamon (6-percent ABV). It was brewed with the help of one of New Magnolia's Brew Club members.

Baa Baa Brewhouse has another big beer drop scheduled for this weekend. Order online for about a dozen beers available between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday. Drive-thru only.

Last weekend, Southern Yankee released Zippa Zappa, an 8.5-percent hazy double IPA
