One of Houston's most beloved former restaurants is returning for one evening only to help one of its own.
Chefs Lyle Bento, Patrick Feges, and JD Woodward are teaming up from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday to bring back Southern Goods in a pop-up event at Tikila's, a bar in the Heights. Bento's Southern-focused eatery in the Heights was lost to a fire in late 2017; the property that housed Southern Goods is now the home of Squable.
The team is re-forming to raise money to help a former Southern Goods employee who is struggling with medical bills.
"We're really excited to get back together for a good cause," said Woodward, executive chef at 1751 Sea & Bar. "It's no secret that insurance coverage is lacking in our industry so we’re happy to do our part to help out a friend."
Look for old Southern Goods favorites like fried pork cracklins, beef burnt ends and grits, pork spareribs, and shrimp and grit croquettes.
Guests can either eat at Tikila's, which is at 2708 N Shepherd Dr in the Heights, or they can pick up their grub by placing an order ahead of time to [email protected] Guests are asked to leave a phone number when writing out their order.
