Our cover story this month is one giant celebration of ordinary Houstonians who did extraordinary deeds when Harvey was sitting on us and wouldn’t leave (and who have continued to do so long after his ignoble departure). Knowing that, we thought we’d host a different party in this space, and invite some non-Houstonian celebrities who put their money where their mouths were and, as disaster struck, donated to charities serving the city.

Kevin Hart is on the list for not only donating $50,000 himself, but for challenging others to join him. “This shit is unbelievable,” he said in a video he posted online. “I think we’ve participated in a lot of challenges on the Internet—some meaningful, some meaningless. At this point, I’m going to start a real challenge. I’m challenging a lot of my celebrity friends to follow my lead.” And follow him they did, with stars including The Rock, DJ Khaled and Nicki Minaj ($25,000 each), among many others, making pledges alongside him, to the tune of well over $1 million. There are too many other celebrities out there who also reportedly gave generously, to fit around our little table—Oprah, Lady Gaga, Chris Young, Alex Rodriguez, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, Leonardo DiCaprio, las mujeres Kardashian … But we’re going to invite Sandra Bullock and Ellen DeGeneres, because they each gave at least $1 million and, well, who wouldn’t want to meet them?
