Houston doesn’t have an official motto. In the early twentieth century, the city boasted it was “where 17 railroads meet the sea.” We tried “Houston Proud” in the ’80s to coincide with our sesquicentennial. Anyone remember “Houston’s Hot”? The less said about that one, the better.

In 2014, we tried “The City with No Limits,” but it didn’t exactly stick around. What would it take for the city to adopt its own catch phrase?

Houstorian and regular Houstonia columnist James Glassman has a few ideas that are actually pretty accurate, but may not necessarily be embraced by local tourism professionals. View them below and vote for your favorite.
