Social media musts: all the Houston accounts you need for a better feed.

There are subtle signs that indicate someone is truly a Houstonian. Maybe it's the fact that they know how to pronounce town ("tine") and down ("dine") correctly. Maybe it’s a very specific kolache order. Or maybe, their social media feed just screams "H-Town." There are a host of local social media accounts and influencers that keep Houston laughing and in the know of exactly what’s going on in the city. For fire memes, food recs, hot takes, and more, these are the social media accounts that Houston relies on. Happy scrolling.

Thank Space City Weather for meteorology made easy.

Space City Weather (@spacecityweather)

Meteorological influencers Matt Lanza and Eric Berger have seen Houston through hurricanes, freezes, and every type of inclement weather in between. With these trusted experts at the helm, Space City Weather has become the go-to for weather-related information, commentary, and forecasts. The pair even won the inaugural Houstonian of the Year award in 2024, with citizens praising the duo’s coverage of the 2024 derecho and Hurricane Beryl.

Montrosecellectuals (@montrosecellectuals)

Run by a mystery poster, this account has captivated Houston for their random, yet highly accurate Houston-centric memes. Think threats of bringing “Waffle House–style behavior” to Shipley Do-Nuts, terrible Photoshop jobs, and hyperlocal and opinionated references to bars and the Menil lawn. More recently, the mystery meme monarch has been writing features for Chron and doing interviews on City Cast Houston.

Hot takes and hot cakes from Houston's premier foodie.

Shawn Singh (@shawnthefoodsheep)

Is it really a Houston list if there’s no mention of Shawn Singh? Known for his food reviews and OOTD posts, Houstonians have long loved Singh’s content. His visits to Michelin-recommended restaurants take locals on a journey through new culinary heights, all while exploring little pockets of the city that people may not have expected.

Queen Persephone (@persephonequeenxo)

One of Houston’s most notable drag queens, Queen Persephone performs regularly throughout the city, serving as a host and champion of the LGBTQ+ community. Aside from her own drag performances, Persephone highlights local events like Drag Bingo at Eighth Row Flint and brunches across the city.

Houston Texans (@houstontexans)

Boasting two million followers, the official account behind our home team is chock-full of football (duh) and excellent memes. The whole account is fun even if you aren’t into sports! Think hilarious behind-the-scenes videos of the Texans players alongside pop culture references so deep in the vault that you forgot about them. More recently, the social media team went viral for their anime-related sports edits referencing classics like the space western Cowboy Bebop and the ramen-eating ninjas in Naruto: Shippuden. For those who are not anime-savvy, the account has also referenced rom-coms like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and has featured the occasional SpongeBob SquarePants edit.

Erika Harrison (@BlackGirlsWhoBrunch)

Perhaps one of the few jacks of all trades on this list, Harrison covers nearly everything in Houston. Her website, Black Girls Who Brunch, is full of recipes and recommendations for some of the best brunches in the city. On Instagram, TikTok, and Threads, Harrison uses her platform to educate the masses about local and state-level politics. Additionally, she offers explainers on lawsuits and new cases, leveraging her day job as an attorney to provide an expert’s perspective. For those less into politics, Harrison is also a woman about town, dishing brunch, food, and event reviews.

Shea Jordan Smith (@shea_jordan)

Known for political commentary and takes on Real Housewives, Smith has broken the internet repeatedly with his hilarious and sometimes cutting tweets. More recently, Smith has gone viral for calling out Sen. Ted Cruz for leaving Texas once again ahead of a freeze. As always, Smith is deep in the know in the realm of local politics, making him one of the most informed and up-to-date local posters on this list. When he’s not posting about the city, Smith is often tweeting about pop culture for his 15,000 followers.
