Shoppers at the Winter Holiday Art Market in 2015.

Houston weather is useless when it comes to noting seasonal changes, so you'd be forgiven for failing to notice that the holiday season is high upon us—the only real clues are the Christmas lights at River Oaks Shopping Center and the holiday music that will take over Sunny 99.1 as of Friday.

Regardless, it's time to get your head in the game. That means coming up with a holiday shopping plan—and unless you know the secret to Galleria parking, it should mean taking advantage of Houston's best holiday markets.

Winter Holiday Art Market

When: Nov. 18-20
Where: Winter Street Studios, 2101 Winter St.
Why shop here: In this, its 11th year, WHAM is expected to surpass $1 million in cumulative sales, making it a major earner for Houston's artists and makers. This year over 90 local artists are participating, so there's plenty to browse. The market has a fun vibe—shopping is always a little better with a drink in hand—especially during the ticketed preview party on Friday night, which has an ugly sweater theme this year.
Entrance: Friday $15/$25 at door, Saturday and Sunday free

Flea Style Fall Show

When: Nov. 19, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
Where: Silver Street Studios, 2000 Edwards St.
Why shop here: This is the Dallas-based event's second shindig in Houston, which means a selection of 120-plus vendors that may be a little different from what you'll see at the Houston-run shows. And different is good, right? Plus there's everything from art, furniture, paper goods, fashion, jewelry and pet gear on offer, plus a photo booth, food trucks, live music and a bar.
Entrance: $5, kids under 12 are free

Why shop here: Because this is as fun as Black Friday gets. Instead of fighting over flat screen televisions, shoppers can browse from 120 vendors with an artistic, handmade or vintage vibe, enjoy live musical performances, learn DIY projects, and take in a fashion show featuring three local designers.
Entrance: $8
