So I don't know how other people discover new stores, but this time it happened while I was waiting for a table for brunch at North. Luxington opened just over six months ago right next door to the BLVD Place hot spot, and so far owner Terin Matlock says it's been a symbiotic relationship.

"That's how we've done so well — North typically has a wait, and if there's nowhere to wait people will come in and look around," she says.

It helps that the store feels like a girly haven, with floral walls and an inviting emerald sofa in the middle of the space. Matlock worked in retail while attending college in Atlanta, and even after graduating and going into corporate America, owning a shop was a dream. When her job offered her the flexibility to work from home and pick her own hours, she took the opportunity to open her first boutique, taking some minimalist cues from some of her favorite boutiques in New York. (She even spaces out the hangers on each rack evenly every night.) Luxington has found a niche carrying hard-to-find Australian brands like Elliatt, Ministry of Style, MLM and We Are Kindred—many of them Houston exclusives.

"I've always been very, very much in love with brands based in Australia. For some reason Aussie designers understand different sizes, different types of women, and their cuts and colorways are so good," says Matlock. "Ladies come in and say, 'I've never heard of this brand, but I love it,' and they come back and ask for it."

There are plenty of pieces in the store under $100—so, less than you'd spend on a boozy brunch next door—including lots of trendy tees from brands like Sub-Urban Riot and Chaser for under $40. And for the Super Bowl Matlock is bringing in more tees with the color schemes of the Falcons and the Patriots—or customers can just stick with classic tees that read "Kale" and "Good Vibes." Also coming to the shop this spring are eight new lines, featuring plenty of this season's big trends: florals and stripes.

"Luxington is fashion meets fun, brands that go from work to happy hour or brunch to a night out, clothes that span across a woman's day," says Matlock.

Luxington is located at 1700 Post Oak Suite 2-170, inside BLVD Place, (281) 501-2013,
