Antonio Costa worked his way up from selling behind the makeup counter to traveling as a national makeup artist for luxury brand Armani. So it comes no surprised that Costa is a staunch proponent of following your passions. Costa, who has worked with Armani for seven years, stopped by Houston last week as part of his nationwide tour to share some of his favorite spring makeup looks and products.

Although Armani doesn’t worry too much about current trends in the industry, Costa came ready to share what was behind the beauty looks at the Armani Privé Spring 2017 runway show in Paris.

1. Orange Is the New Black

...And we aren’t referring to the Netflix series. Bright orange lips, bold burnt-orange eye shadow and peachy blush are currently trending on the Prive Couture runway along with Armani’s Asian-inspired fashion line, which is infused with oranges and antique golds paired with browns and blacks.

“When I see the makeup, I see the runway fashion show through the face. It’s a beautiful thing,” says Costa. “It’s all about connecting from the way you dress to the way you dress your face with the makeup.”

2. Bold Brows

Thick brows are back, particularly those like movie stars were wearing in the 1940s. Or maybe that’s just Cara Delevingne setting trends again.

3. Natural-looking Liquid Foundation

Armani focuses on a less-is-more beauty philosophy, as natural skin is considered to have the best complexion. According to Costa, the best skincare tips to live by are to “cleanse, exfoliate and protect.” Most of Armani’s products are liquid-based because they are aiming for the most quality natural look that doesn’t cake on the skin. For example: A new full-coverage matte foundation, Luminous Silk, aims for a silky, velvet texture.

4. Red Lips

Ah yes, the trend that will never die. “Armani truly believes the classic red color is elegant and feminine,” says Costa. “If I have to pick one product from the entire collection to transform an everyday look to a special occasion glam look, it would be red lips.”
