As you approach Bandera you will begin to notice some not too subtle changes.  The sky seems bigger; the air is fresher; the traffic is less; and the pent up tension associated with the stress of traffic jams, and a frenzy work schedule fade away.  It’s ok.  Take a deep breath, howl at the moon if you like and settle in for a good night’s sleep free from big city distractions.

Not unlike the cowboys of long ago you’ll awaken to vistas of rolling hills and morning bird calls rearin’ to go.  Best chow down on a hearty cowboy breakfast if you plan to spend your day horseback riding in the hills and possibly even pack a modern day saddle bag with snacks and ample water if you plan to be on the trail all day.  Once in the saddle and on the trail, the horse’s gait kick starts your imagination and transports you back in time.  It’s not hard to imagine the awe the first cowboys felt as they traveled the region as you catch a glimpse of deer grazing or lazing under a tree or possibly a wild turkey, or even a roadrunner.

Take the afternoon to cool off, literally.  Head to the river and let the clear, cool waters embrace you. Or if you like jump in a pool or even take the kids to the Flying L Waterpark.  No matter which you’ll be refreshed and have time to sneak in a little bit of fun history by visiting the Frontier Times Museum.   Imagine what the museum was like when it also served as the founders
