Devin Robinson isn’t just the Face of Architecture. He is the mind, body and soul of his craft. His passion for the industry can be felt and admired by anyone standing in his presence. Houstonia Magazine is no stranger to Devin’s talents, featuring him and his self-founded firm Kinetic Design Lab, LLC in our article “Houston Architecture, from A to Z” back in 2018.

At the time of his Houstonia feature, Devin was known for his work creating unique living spaces out of containers. In 2021, he has stayed true to his roots with his current Cavalcade project, creating sleek, modern living spaces out of – you guessed it – containers.

Devin’s love and appreciation for repurposing containers and making use of non-ideal spaces is congruent with KdLab, LLC’s founding philosophy, the Greek principle “Patience, Resourcefulness, Innovation.” Devin champions this in all his projects, working closely with clients to meet their design needs while staying mindful of the pre-existing materials and architectural structures at hand.

The most unique part of Devin’s firm KdLab, LLC is the ability to wear both hats of designer and contractor. To quote Devin in an interview for VoyageHouston back in 2018: 

“The company is structured as part architectural studio and part general construction firm [ ….] The new model of Design + Build affords for a one-stop shop for all aspects of the project delivery. The designer is the same person who did the construction and the two are tangibly related to one another. There is far less opportunity to for something to get miss-interpreted or executed incorrectly because the contractors (who are usually separate from the design team). This, in turn, cuts down on time, cost and final delivery expectations.

Essentially, if there are any items that do not get executed correctly because of one reason or another, the buck stops with us and we fix it, period. At no additional costs to the Owner and on our dime.” (VoyageHouston, 2018)
