There are so many good reasons to join a running program. You may be the type of person who needs to have a fixed training schedule with a specific goal in mind to start an exercise regimen, you may just want to get back into running or (gasp!) maybe you would like to start running for the first time. Whatever your motivation may be, starting a training program does not have to be daunting, thanks to Power in Motion (PIM), a membership-based running and training group for runners at all levels. PIM can provide you with the tools for your first 5K or get you back into race shape.

Power in Motion provides a spring and fall race training program that lasts for 10 weeks and costs $39 to join. Registration includes weekly talks by guest speakers, weekly runs that are organized by individual ability level, a daily training schedule, one coach for every seven participants and a PIM running shirt. There are also social events to mingle with your fellow PIMsters off the running trail.

The spring training program begins on Feb. 24, and spring registration just opened up online. The spring training group is working towards improving in time for the seasonal goal race, which will be the Cinco de Mayo 5K held on April 23. The race proceeds provide educational scholarships for Hispanic students.

Although there is no coaching until the start of the spring training group, you can meet some members now by joining them for a run every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Apache Grove at Memorial Park, or find PIM on Facebook to learn about other running group activities.
