Harvey, which touched down Friday night as a Category 4 hurricane, is now a tropical storm and has been stalled out over the Houston region since Saturday evening. As a result, there's widespread catastrophic flooding throughout the Houston area, resulting in five deaths so far.
First things first: If your house is in danger of flooding, don't panic. These are some guidelines of what to do. Officials are urging residents not to call 911, which has been at capacity, unless it's a true emergency. Mayor Turner says that a few inches of water in your home do not constitute an emergency. If your home is flooding, get on the roof, not the attic, unless you have an ax or another way to break through the roof. If you have a true emergency, stay on 911 until you are connected. There are other numbers to try as well to receive assistance.
